Madonna’s love for Sean Penn has “never gone away”, it has been claimed.

The pair had a famously rocky relationship, divorcing in 1989 after a four-year marriage. Their time together was marred by violent outbursts, including Sean being charged with felony domestic assault. However, in the past few months Sean and Madonna are believed to have become close again. During a humanitarian trip to Haiti it was even claimed they had been spotted holding hands.

“The love between Madonna and Sean has never gone away. It was clear to all on the trip that they have unfinished business and are emotionally involved,” a source told British magazine Grazia. “The focus of the visit was for Madonna to see the work Sean has done with his J/P Haitian Relief Organization, which they are both very passionate about, but they seem to love spending time together. They were very touchy-feely and sat up late into the night chatting. It’s very casual, but nobody would be surprised if they went public as a couple in the future.”

Madonna’s 13-year-old son Rocco – whose father is the singer’s ex-husband Guy Ritchie – also travelled to Haiti. He is believed to have bonded with Sean during the visit.

“Sean and Rocco got on brilliantly – which Madonna loved. It meant a lot,” an insider revealed.

Madonna hasn’t been pictured with her 25-year-old boyfriend Brahmin Zaibat since October.

While friends want Madonna to be happy, they are said to be slightly concerned at the prospect of a reunion with Sean.

“There’s no denying Madonna and Sean have incredible chemistry, but given their history and explosive personalities, it might not be the smoothest ride,” a source added.
