G.T. Putnam's Son has removed a section and a picture from the U.S. edition of Morrissey's new memoir, Autobiography, that described his relationship with photographer Jake Owens Walters.

When the book was published in the U.K. in October, the passages on Walters, with which Morrissey was close for two years, created some controversy which was met by the singer by declaring himself "humansexual."

Also removed from the book was a picture of Walters as a boy and his ID in a passage that had to do with an evening with Chrissie Hynde of the Pretenders.

The reasons for the editing and removals are not known but could run from threats of lawsuits from parties involved, the wish to avoid further publicity or, possibly, the publisher feeling that it would not be acceptable to American audiences.

Both the book and the digital download of Morrissey's cover of Lou Reed's Satellite of Love were released on Tuesday.
