Katy Perry will give children “a brighter future” through UNICEF.
The 29-year-old pop star was announced as the charity’s Goodwill Ambassador.
And the Roar singer is aiming on empowering underprivileged children to effect change in their circumstances.
“I believe young people have the power to change their own lives, with our help,” Katy revealed in a press release issued by UNICEF on Tuesday.
“I am honoured to join UNICEF as a Goodwill Ambassador, and committed to doing everything I can to help children and adolescents who come from such different backgrounds but want the same thing: a brighter future.”
UNICEF is a United Nations programme based in New York that offers assistance to mothers and children in developing countries.
The philanthropic organisation is thrilled to have Katy on board.
“Katy Perry is already a champion for children, and we look forward to hearing her ‘roar’ on behalf of UNICEF,” said UNICEF Executive Director Anthony Lake.
“We are delighted that she is joining us as UNICEF’s newest Goodwill Ambassador and lending her remarkable voice to amplify the voices of children and young people around the world.”
Katy will work specifically with children afflicted by abuse, neglect, poverty, and violence, and youth who are adversely impacted by conflict.
The Roar singer paid a philanthropic visit to Madagascar with UNICEF earlier this year to bring attention to children’s hardship in the region.
Several celebrities before her have taken on the highly respected role of Goodwill Ambassador, including David Beckham, Orlando Bloom, Susan Sarandon and Jackie Chan.
