Rita Ora is taking on a key supporting role in Fifty Shades of Grey.

The 23-year-old British singer is moving from the music scene to the big screen in the Universal Pictures film version of E.L. James’ erotic novel.

Variety reports she will be playing the sister of titular character Christian Grey, who is portrayed by actor Jamie Dornan.

Fifty Shades of Grey follows young college graduate Anastasia Steele as she embarks on a hot S&M charged sexual relationship with older businessman Christian.

Dakota Johnson has been cast as Anastasia in the picture, which is directed by Sam Taylor-Johnson.

Rita has taken on minor roles in the past, including a brief cameo in this year’s car racing crime thriller Fast & Furious 6.

The songstress has climbed to the top of UK musical charts but she has yet to make a huge splash in America. And critics predict her part in Fifty Shades will help her crossover to great success in the US.

Producer Dana Brunetti recently spoke about how challenging casting has been for Fifty Shades.

"You have to get actors that really want to do it as well, and that was a really difficult process because a lot of them didn't want to do it just because of what they either thought that it would require or what it will require, or what it will make them into; it's gonna make them into huge stars but known of a certain thing," he explained to Collider.com.

Fifty Shades of Grey will reach theatres the day before Valentine’s Day in 2015.
