The Foo Fighters have Chips' star Erik Estrada to thank for getting their favourite band back together.
Estrada has personally delivered reformation instructs to each member of the band for shows in Mexico in December.
Dave Grohl announced that the band was taking a break last October when he wrote on Facebook 'I'm not sure when the Foo Fighters are going to play again. It feels strange to say that, but it's a good thing for all of us to go away for a while. It's one of the reasons we're still here. Make sense? I never want to NOT be in this band. So, sometimes it's good to just . . . put it back in the garage for a while . . .'
The band did wander out a bit over the year, including going into the studio over the summer to start work on their eighth album. Grohl, himself, also stayed busy with his first film, Sound City, on which he worked with many music greats including Paul McCartney and his old Nirvana bandmates Krist Novoselic and Pat Smear. Drummer Taylor Hawkins took up acting, playing Iggy Pop in CBGB.
The hiatus now appears to be completely over with the Foo Fighters' first live shows. Set for December 11 and 13 at Foro Sol in Mexico City, the show is sure to include a lot of old material along with a bit of what they have been working on in the studio. Opening is The National.
