Selena Gomez insists there is no “formula” when it comes to being a Disney star.

The 21-year-old actress found fame on the Disney TV show Wizards of Waverly Place, which ended last year.

She is now carving out a solo career and dipping her toe into more adult movies, such as Spring Breakers, but doesn’t think she’s totally shaken the Disney mantle yet.

Stars including Britney Spears and Miley Cyrus also found fame thanks to Disney and have seemingly struggled to mature in the spotlight, although Selena won’t judge them.

“I miss it. I wish I was still a part of it. I think it was the perfect thing for me at that time, I was 14.

“I think everybody has their own path. Everybody has their own journey and you do what you have to love at the end of the day. There’s not really a formula,” she told UK TV show Daybreak. “And I don’t even know if I’ve fully made the transition yet, I feel like half the time I feel like I’m 15 and then I feel like I’m 21. Then I feel like I’m 30 when I’m sitting at home by myself on a Friday night watching, like, the same episode of Friends.”

Selena’s debut solo album Stars Dance hits stores this year and marked her stepping away from her band Selena Gomez & the Scene. She calls the decision to make it alone “refreshing” and knows taking to the stage and going on promotional trails alone has been a positive experience for her.

The star is happy to be independent following the end of her highly-publicised relationship with Justin Bieber.

“No – I’m good,” she replied, when asked if she is looking for love. “If it happens, great, but I’m good at the moment.”
