Christina Aguilera admits that she and Adam Levine have "strong personalities."
The 32-year-old singer was one of the original coaches on the US singing talent show but took time out to focus on raising her five-year-old son Max.
In the early seasons it was clear there was friction between her and fellow coach, Maroon Five''s frontman Adam.
"We''re both very passionate, but it isn''t personal with Adam. It never has been. We''re just very strong personalities," Christina told Fox News.
There are other changes that also needed to be made for the Dirrty singer.
Making sure the contestants get the best out of the experience is vital, and the spotlight isn''t going to be on the squabbling coaches this time around.
"The time off made me see more than ever that [the competition] isn''t about us. It''s about the contestants. To me, being on the show [and] gaining advice from all of us who have lived this business, that is success," she justified, when it was pointed out the winners of the competition haven''t yet matched the success of their American Idol rivals.
Joining Christina on the famous spinning chairs is Cee Lo Green, another original who''s had a break from the show.
Blake Shelton, the reigning champion for the past three seasons, also returns and has been putting Christina and Cee Lo firmly in their place.
"He reminded us on many occasions that he is welcoming us back to his show. It felt as if we never left," laughed Christina.
Christina has enlisted the help of British singer-songwriter Ed Sheeran to help advise her during the battle rounds.
The Voice season five premieres on September 23 on NBC.
