After a successful premiere on Radio 1Xtra last month, the BBC have commissioned a new edition of The Naughty Boy documentary for Radio 1, set to air on Monday 16th September at 9pm.
Featuring exclusive interviews from some of the country's biggest stars - Emeli Sande, Professor Green, James Arthur, George The Poet, Sam Smith, Bashy, Wretch 32, Tinie Tempah and Chipmunk ' The Story of Naughty Boy is truly inspirational; following a young Shahid Khan as he overcomes the challenges of the music industry to reach the top of the charts.
The son of Pakistani immigrants in Watford, Naughty Boy, aka Shahid Khan, dropped out of college to write music in his parents' shed, in-between shifts delivering pizza. Determined to raise funds to enable him to pursue his dream, he was duly awarded £5000 from The Prince's Trust, before entering as a contestant on the popular Channel 4 quiz show Deal or No Deal and winning a further £44 000, which enabled him to launch his own record label and recording studio.
After a chance meeting with the then unknown Emeli Sande at a BBC Radio 1Xtra event, the rest, as they say, is history. The two developed a strong working relationship and went on to write songs for Wiley and Chipmunk, before working together on Emeli's debut album, Our Version of Events, which became 2012's biggest selling record in the UK.
Khan has since produced for Rihanna, Cheryl Cole, Professor Green, Sam Smith and Wretch 32 - the last three of whom all feature on his debut album Hotel Cabana, alongside Tinie Tempah, Ed Sheeran, Ella Eyre, Gabrielle, Bastille, Wiz Khalifa and of course Emile Sande, with whom he co-wrote the platinum lead single from the album, La La La.
