Kat Von D has confirmed her engagement to DJ Deadmau5 is over.

The celebrity tattoo artist and the electronic musician were due to tie the knot on August 10.

The on/off couple split temporarily last November, but they quickly got back together and became engaged in December.

Kat told her 1.5 million Twitter followers on Wednesday she disliked infidelity and seemingly alluded to the end of her and Deadmau5’s romance.

“Cheating on your loved one is the most hurtful thing one could do,” she tweeted.

“I hate to have to admit, that this relationship is indeed over.

“Onwards and upwards.”

Kat and Deadmau5, real name Joel Zimmerman, had confirmed they were a couple in mid-September 2009.

The relationship heated up fast with Kat even giving the music producer a star tattoo below his eye to match her own that same month.

At the time of their November 2012 breakup, the pair also used the micro-blogging site to express their grief.

“Man, Can't say I didn't give it my best,” Kat wrote, adding, "I sure was wrong. But at least he made it a no brainer to break that off. #lessonlearned. (sic)”

The relationship was Kat’s first since parting ways with Sandra Bullock’s ex-husband Jesse James. Following two break-ups with Jesse in 2011 and rumours that he had cheated on her, Kat became celibate before dating the DJ.

Kat told People in April the wedding was to have an “underwater” theme.

The aquatic idea was inspired by author H.P. Lovecraft’s short story The Call of Cthulhu, about a man who is part human and half octopus.
