John Mayer is going back on tour after recovering from a potentially career-ending throat condition.
The 35-year-old singer was ordered by doctors to take time off after a granuloma was found on his vocal cords in 2011.
The tissue inflammation, caused by his acid reflux, forced the Wonderland crooner to go on vocal rest for weeks at a time.
At one point he wondered if singing was still going to be an option.
"We got to a point where we thought we were out of the woods, and then it came raging back," John told Billboard magazine.
John underwent surgery twice to remove the growth.
At one point the musician was forced to type on his iPad to communicate.
"I felt I needed to take six months off, just to regain my sanity, really,” he recalled.
His vocal chords are now in top shape after successful treatment in which he banned alcohol, spicy foods and anything that could trigger a flare-up.
John recalled the moment he got the all-clear, revealing he was aching to get back on the road.
"As I looked up at the sky, I was planning this tour in my mind - I couldn't have done that when it was unforeseen when and if it was going to happen," he told the magazine.
John plans to hit the road on April 25 in Tuscaloosa, Alabama to promote his 2012 album Born and Raised.
The 45-date tour will wrap on October 5 in Los Angeles, California.
He calls having the opportunity to play again “the greatest gift I now have in my life”.
“My dreams were in escrow, but when I found out this thing in my throat had receded, the most exciting thing for me was having a second chance at a new life. My dreams have come true twice. That's really cool," he said.
