Beyonce has "always wanted to be a queen".

The singer voices the character of Queen Tara in 20th Century Fox’s animated 3D film Epic.

The superstar already wears the crown when it comes to music and is looking forward to ruling on screen when the movie premieres in May this year.

“I’ve always imagined being in an animated film. I’ve always wanted to be a queen,” Beyoncé revealed in an official promotional video for the film. “Queen Tara is very important in Epic. She’s preserved the beauty of her natural world and the safety of her people.”

The fantasy-adventure movie also features Amanda Seyfried, Colin Farrell, and Aziz Ansari. The plot follows the battle between good and evil in the forest which Beyoncé's character rules over.

“Everything in this movie is big - the action, the characters," she gushed. "This is one time where the film really lives up to its title."

The singer has been working on her fifth solo record ahead of her upcoming world tour.

The Mrs. Carter Show will kick off on April 15 in Belgrade and end in Brooklyn, New York, on August 3.

Beyoncé is also thought to have been booked to perform at US First Lady Michelle Obama's 50th birthday next January.

Michelle allegedly asked the US pop star and British singer Adele to sing at the bash.

"America’s first lady will be holding a huge celebrity-packed party for her birthday at the White House next year and, as she adores Adele and Beyoncé, she has asked them both to sing," a source told British newspaper The Daily Mail. "Adele has graciously accepted and waived her usual fee for the high-profile private performance. She will sing a selection of her most-loved hits for the first lady and her friends."
