Jazzman Kenny Ball has passed away at the age of 82.

The UK's Kenny Ball and The Jazzmen introduced New Orleans jazz to England when in 1962 they had a number 2 hit with 'Midnight In Moscow'. The song was also a number 2 hit for Kenny in the USA.

Kenny Ball and the Jazzmen had more UK Top 10 hits with 'March of the Siamese Twins' (no. 4, UK) and 'The Green Leaves of Summer (no. 7, UK), then a string of Top 40 hits through to 1967. In total, Kenny Ball had 14 Top 50 singles in the UK.

Ball was a regular on the Morecambe and Wise Show and the resident band on Saturday Night At The Mill on the BBC. He recently published his memoirs in the book 'Musical Skylarks'.

Ball continued to tour right up until recently with Acker Bilk and Chris Barber. He was due to perform tonight at Grantham, Lincolnshire, England.
