Jepsen cancels Boy Scouts gig

Carly Rae Jepsen has cancelled an appearance at the Boy Scouts of America Jamboree.

The Call Me Maybe singer is taking a stance against the Boy Scouts ban on openly gay members.

She announced the news via her Twitter page on Tuesday morning.

"As an artist who believes in equality for all people, I will not be participating in the Boy Scouts of America Jamboree this summer," she declared.

?'I always have and will continue to support the LGBT community on a global level and stay informed on the ever changing landscape in the ongoing battle for gay rights in this country and across the globe,' she added.

The band Train, who were also due to headline the July Jamboree, have also hinted they would be pulling out of the gig.

They issued a statement saying they 'strongly oppose any policy that questions the equality of any American citizen.'

However, the pop rock band said they were still 'looking forward' to performing, providing the BSA 'make the right decision before then.'

USA Today reports that 60,000 people have signed a petition on Change.Org protesting the Boy Scout policy.

Carly Rae's response comes after a call from pressure group GLAAD to boycott the event.
