The debut album for season 8 X Factor finalist Janet Devlin will feature a batch of new songs co-written with Deni Blues & Roots star Newton Faulkner.
Faulkner tells Noise11 that he and his brother Billy have co-written the songs with Devlin. 'We did four or five songs with her and she is definitely going with three or four of them,' Newton tells Noise11. 'There is a track called 'Wonderful' that I'm really happy with. I wrote them with her. They'd say 'we want Pop and we want it a bit to the left and not too obvious'. That's my thing''.
Although Newton is writing with Janet he never saw The X Factor. 'I didn't have a television at that point,' he says. 'I have one now but I don't have an aerial which I think means I get more work done'.
Newton is divided about the value of reality TV talent shows. 'A lot of people speak out about the damage it does to the music industry because it doesn't last very long but if it does last long it does good,' he says. 'If she can carve a career after that and then maintain it then you deserve it because that is seriously hard to do. The industry is in a strange place at the moment and I don't think that's the main problem'.
However he does agree that if he went on a talent show he probably wouldn't have lasted long. 'Well for a start they probably wouldn't let me play guitar which would be annoying, especially for me,' he said.
