Justin Bieber’s mother Pattie Mallette will give her unwavering support to her son following his breakup from Selena Gomez.

The Canadian singer and Selena are said to have split up just before New Year’s Eve after arguing during a Mexican vacation.

Speaking on The Today Show, Pattie was tactful when asked if she would like to see Selena and Justin get back together.

"You know, I just try and support whatever he's wanting and I think she's a sweetheart, and whatever they decide is great," she said.

"It’s tough letting go and letting our kids make the mistakes they need to make,” she said, adding she hopes Justin will "learn from my mistakes" as he gets older.

Pattie’s comments came after reports that a girl believed to be Selena was seen leaving the teenage heartthrob’s Los Angeles home last Saturday morning.

She and Justin have also been rumoured to be “hanging out” recently.

Meanwhile, Pattie also admitted she and her son were “both nervous” at the prospect of his hosting Saturday Night Live this weekend.

"He's been rehearsing all week and practicing and helping write skits,” she revealed.

“He's excited."

Pattie was appearing on The Today Show to promote her film Crescendo I, which is about Beethoven's mother's attempted abortion.
