Kermit the Frog thinks it’s important to stay “close to royalty” as he might turn into a prince one day.

The bright green amphibian is one of the stars of The Muppets sequel, which is slated for release next year.

The movie is being shot in London, where the original The Muppet Show was filmed, and Kermit hopes to get close to Britain’s Queen Elizabeth II while spending some time across the pond.

“We have lots of old friends here,” he assured Entertainment Weekly.

“I know plenty of frogs here. And I’ve met the queen. She doesn’t know I’m in town yet but I plan to go see her. I try to stay close to the royalty. There’s always that outside chance I could get turned into a prince, you see. Pretty important stuff for a frog.”

The cheeky star is joined by UK comedian Ricky Gervais for the film, along with his best friend Fozzie Bear and love interest Miss Piggy.

Getting the old crew together isn’t easy and Kermit hinted at problems between himself and Piggy.

“Well, we hadn’t done a big movie in a long, long time, so really just seeing the guys everyday was celebration enough. Because, you know, when we’re not working, we go and do our separate things,” he admitted.

“We don’t live in a big house or anything. I don’t really spend a lot of time in Hollywood. I go back to the swamp. Piggy usually won’t come to the swamp with me - she just goes off with my credit card and I don’t see her for months. It’s very strange.”

The frog also admitted it was difficult to get Fozzie to travel to Britain for the reunion.

Being a bear, the cold time of year isn’t the best for the lazy character.

“I think everyone was pretty happy to do it. But, you know, Fozzie has been hibernating - it’s been tough to bring him to London this time of year and keep him awake,” Kermit complained.
