We are confused.
So far, two different versions of the band Black Flag have been announced for various shows this year, none of which constitute a true reunion of any version of the band.
Greg Ginn, the founding guitarist for the group, will be playing under the name Black Flag with Ron Reyes on vocals, who was in the band from 1979 to 1980, and drummer Roberto "Robo" Valverde who played with them from 1978 to 1981. Missing from the lineup is Chuck Dukowski who was originally scheduled to participate and would have given them a full reunion of the 1979-80 lineup.
Instead, Dukowski has formed his own group to be called FLAG to play Black Flag music exclusively. Included in this version will also be founding group vocalist Keith Morris and two members of the Descendants, Bill Stevenson (drums) and Stephen Egerton (guitar).
Black Flag has been announced for one appearance so far at Hevy Fest in August, their first U.K. appearance in thirty years.
Flag is scheduled for Belgium's Groezrock Festival, Germany's Monster Bash and Punk Rock Festival in Las Vegas. There is also word that they will tour the U.S. and Europe.
Black Flag originally formed as Panic in 1976 with Ginn and Morris. Since late-1977, when they changed their name to Black Flag, the band has had a revolving door of musicians including, arguably, their most famous alumnus, Henry Rollins. In all, there were 14 different lineups before the band broke up in 1986, a 15th for a 2003 reunion, and the new ones for 2013.
