Vintage Guitar magazine has announced the latest inductees to their Hall of Fame.

The guitarist getting the most votes (29.3%) was Charlie Christian who was one of the most important innovators during the early days of the electric guitar. It was Christian who moved the guitar from a rhythm instrument to lead with his single-string technique.

Also making the hall with 26% of the vote was ZZ Top's Billy Gibbons. Vintage Guitar editor Ward Meeker said of Gibbons "Whether laying rock's most-famous licks on a Strat or his legendary Les Paul Standard, Pearly Gates, or any number of tracks and guitars in the more than 40 years that is ZZ Top history, Billy Gibbons has been a guitarist who purveys utmost style."

This is the 22nd time that the magazine has selected members for its hall in the categories of player, innovator and instrument. Gibbons and Christian were both brought in as players while the innovator for this year is Mike Matthews, effects pedal innovator and original owner of Electro-Harmonix.

The instrument to be inducted is the Gibson Les Paul Junior.
