Nicki Minaj doesn’t care about getting music awards.

The Starships singer was nominated for four gongs at the American Music Awards in Los Angeles on Sunday.

She beat out Drake and J. Cole to win favourite rap/hip hop album for her record Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded.

But on the red carpet, the rapper insisted she could care less about walking away with a trophy.

"I don't do music for awards. It's so crazy because people always have to remind me that I'm nominated for an award when I go to award shows,” she told the Associated Press.

Nicki said she intends to have a long career. For that reason, she doesn’t stress about the accolades.

"I know they're going to come. I'm sitting here looking at my awards right now. I never stress it. I think of myself as ‘I'll have a career long enough to get all those different awards,’" she explained.

Nicki performed her hit song Freedom and Beauty and a Beat with Justin Bieber.

She said it was the opportunity to take the stage that really excited her about attending the fan-voted event.

“I'm very, very proud of the record and I'm happy that people are going to get to hear it. I'm performing a hip-hop song on the AMAs, and I think that's just a big look for hip-hop,” she said.
