There are dozens of music halls of fame that have sprung up around the country. Almost every state has one along with a number of localities.
The latest belongs to what would have to be considered one of the most important cities to blues, R&B, jazz, country and rock, Memphis, TN.
The Memphis Music Hall of Fame is tied in with the Smithsonian developed Memphis Rock N Soul Museum which is housed on historic Beale Street. The hall recently announced their initial roster of 25 artists who will be inducted.
Estelle Axton & Jim Stewart
Bobby 'Blue' Bland
Booker T. and The MG's
Jerry Lee Lewis
Professor W.T. McDaniel
The Staple Singers
Three 6 Mafia
Nat D. Williams
The artists were selected earlier this year by a nominating committee that included musicians, producers, studio owners, authors and historians including the likes of Al Bell, Nelson George, Peter Guralnick and Robert Gordon.
The official induction ceremony will be Thursday, November 29 at the Cannon Center for the Performing Arts.
