East 17, one of the most celebrated and successful groups of all time, are set to release a new single later this year. The band who achieved 18 Top Twenty hits (including House Of Love, Deep and Christmas No.1 Stay Another Day) as well as four Top Ten albums and sales of over twenty million records, will be releasing their single Counting Clouds on FOD Records.
The track, written by Ivor Novello Award winning main-man Tony Mortimer, has been taken from the band's current album Dark Light and sees the band replace a previous dance ethic with a transatlantic rock backdrop reminiscent of artists like Billy Idol, Kings Of Leon, U2 and Bon Jovi. Mortimer suggests that 'everyone is subconsciously inspired by American music and rock 'n' roll and this time around we wanted to do something more live with less tricks!'
Counting Clouds is East 17's strongest single since Stay Another Day, the song Mortimer wrote for his brother Ollie who committed suicide and the No. 1 single that brought him an Ivor Novello Award back in 1995. Counting Clouds itself is reminiscent of Coldplay's more epic moments and is as memorable and personal as the aforementioned Stay Another Day as it touches on the subject of Mortimer's wife going into hospital to have a spinal operation and him promising her a beach holiday where all they'd have to do is "count clouds".
Counting Clouds has been produced by Bob Rose and Tony Mortimer.
