One Direction’s Zayn Malik has returned to Twitter because he doesn’t want to let his fans down.

The teenage heartthrob quit the social network on Tuesday, after complaining he was getting abuse online.

However, he appears to have had a change of heart and took to his account today to let everyone know he was back.

“Sorry, I was getting some abuse on twitter but I dont want to let my fans down. So I am back!! :) x (sic),” the singer wrote.

“And thanks for all your messages of support. I really do love all you guys, your support never ceases 2 amaze me xxx (sic).”

The boyband member was apparently accused of partying too hard and cheating on his girlfriend, Little Mix singer Perrie Edwards.

“The reason i don't tweet as much as i use to, is because I'm sick of all the useless opinions and hate that i get daily goodbye twitter :) (sic),” he posted earlier this week.

"My fans that have something nice to say can tweet me on the one direction account, :) x (sic).”

Perrie deleted her account in May, after also claiming she had received online abuse.

Earlier today, Zayn promised fans that the band had some “big news” to share.

One Direction have since confirmed details of their brand new single, Live While We're Young.

The group will release the first track from their forthcoming second album on September 30.

In a video message posted on Twitter, the boys also revealed the single will be available to pre-order on iTunes from midnight tonight.

"We want to say a massive thank you to you guys because we wouldn't be where we are today without you." Louis Tomlinson added.
