The 'One Thing' hitmakers - who are made up of Niall Horan, Harry Styles, Zayn Malik, Louis Tomlinson and Liam Payne - are kicking off the awards ceremony - which rewards inspirational teenagers who have made a difference - with a live performance at London's Wembley Arena on October 7.

Niall said: "It was so much fun last year and it's a great line-up. It's always good to be on a great bill.

"And obviously with the Teen Hero Award, it's an award for people who have done amazing things, obviously it's great to be part of that as well."

The highlight of the star-studded event will be the presentation of three Teen Hero Awards to extraordinary and deserving teenagers.

Awards will also be given to celebrities from the fields of music, entertainment and sport.

Radio 1 presenter and Teen Awards 2012 host Nick Grimshaw said: "I'm really excited for the Teen Awards which is one of the most fun events of the year.

"This year's going to be bigger and better than ever - as well as celebrating inspirational teenagers, one of the biggest bands in the world One Direction will be playing."

Conor Maynard, Taylor Swift and Little Mix will also perform at the star-studded awards ceremony.
