With Eighties nights now becoming a staple on the retro scene as a fresh wave of clubbers get hungry for the hits of their childhood, the DJ duo are about to launch a three-night event that takes that decade, the Nineties and this century’s tunes and mixes them into one big party.

Billed as “The Story of Pop Weekender”, the event takes place in the downstairs club at Belushi’s in London Bridge, and launches, rather aptly, on the birthday of the Queen of Pop herself.

And when New Kids On The Pop, aka Ed and Georgina, were asked to take up residency at the club, they decided that August 16th – Madonna’s birthday - would be a good omen for their launch.

Georgina said: “When we were asked to play a three-night pop event covering the 80s, 90s and 00s, we decided on that date because you simply can’t have a pop night without honouring the queen herself, and her birthday is just a perfect platform.”

With the threat to the Material Girl’s crown becoming stronger every time a new songstress hits the charts, the DJ duo insisted that her legacy will ensure her pride of place when they take to the decks.

Ed said: “With all this talk of Lady Gaga stealing Madonna’s crown it’s easy to forget that before her latest album, MDNA and before Hard Candy, she ruled the charts, the airwaves and the dancefloors for over a decade. It’s a perfect opportunity to remind ourselves of the legacy she brings to pop culture."

But he added that the real dancefloor battle will take place on their last night, Saturday August 18th. He said: “Saturday is exclusively 00s pop, so we’ll see who fills the dancefloor then. The Thursday and Friday belong to Madonna, but Saturday might well become Lady Gaga central.”

But it’s not just about the battle of the blondes because NKOTP will be playing the songs of every pop singer, duo and group to get party-goers on their feet, whether it’s to the Spice Girls, Duran Duran, Take That, Katy Perry or Rihanna.

Georgina added: “We’re all about the pop. Whatever era it’s from, good pop music stands the test of time, and this new night pays tribute to the classics, the cheesy and the downright crap. Hitting the dancefloor to the songs of your childhood, your teenage years and the current charts and embracing the frivolity and fun is what pop music is about, well, that’s what we’re about and that’s what this event is about.”
