When it was first released in March of 1967, The Velvet Underground and Nico was a commercial failure.
It's in the years since that it has become recognized as one of the most iconic albums of the rock era, with Rolling Stone naming it the 13th greatest and the National Recording Registry of the Library of Congress naming it to their rolls in 2006.
For the album's 45th anniversary, Universal will release a 6-CD version that incorporates a wealth of new material not included in the many reissues from over the years.
