Esco Williams has done it AGAIN! The same guy who was brought up on a concoction of Marvin Gaye and Sonic The Hedgehog; and was down to the final 20 in the MTV Brand New 2012 has just won the MOBO Unsung National Competition. He certainly is THE NEW CHALLENGER!
Esco Williams has been around the block, and then some with his jazzy soul vibes and catchy tunes. He's rocked it with Sense of Sound, and has also gone solo and this accolade goes to prove he's as good as his fans in Liverpool think he is. A musician of his calibre doesn't just perform popular covers and put out the odd single ' instead they mix and mash those covers and make them their own. One example of this is his medley of 'American Boy' and 'No Diggity'; a party starter in any situation
They're not the only covers and samples Mr Williams has done either, in 2011 he was brave enough to sample the Beatles' 'Let It Be'. After his very popular neo-soul 'INTROduction EP', Esco dropped his fan supported 'New Challenger' album which helped him claim the competitions top spot.
Esco heard about the news on the Ronnie Herel's 1Xtra radio show on Monday night (09/07/12). The telephone line erupted with cheers from Esco Williams and his crew celebrating, Herel claimed he could hear Esco's smile down the telephone line while conducting a live interview. Later going on to say: "I've been dying to play your tracks but have had to hold back. I couldn't let anything out of the bag."
As part of his MOBO Unsung Champion title, Esco will be performing at the MOBO Awards Nominations Launch later in the year in front of key industry executives, and will win some great exposure thanks to MOBO Magazine and MOBO TV.
Esco Williams said: "This is amazing, I am so grateful right now. There was some immense talent in the competition, many of them from Liverpool and I've won ' its unbelievable. I have been doing this for about 10 years now and its starting to pay off."
"I've just released an album through pledge music and I'm going to continue working on that for a while. I'm going to continue to play live shows with my band the super awesome Kontrollers. Then in September I am looking to put out a single called 'New Challenger' which is my Game Boy, Supernintendo, Street Fighter love anthem."
"For anyone that has even remotely supported me, thank you very much. I am eternally greatful."
