Steven Tyler has announced that he will be leaving American Idol and returning to his “first love, Aerosmith”.

The 64-year-old frontman caused a feud with his bandmates in 2010 when he joined the judging panel of American Idol without informing them first.

Aerosmith resolved the conflict and worked together to create their fifteenth studio album Music From Another Dimension!

Steven desires to put most of his focus into music right now.

“After some long … hard … thoughts … I've decided it's time for me to let go of my mistress American Idol before she boils my rabbit,” he stated in a press release distributed by Fox. “I strayed from my first love, Aerosmith, and I'm back — but instead of begging on my hands and knees, I've got two fists in the air and I'm kicking the door open with my band.”

Steven makes this announcement the same day that his co-judge Jennifer Lopez alluded to her possible departure from the show.

“I am thinking that it's time for me to go,” she said on the Today show Thursday morning.

“I've enjoyed the show so much. It's a tough decision either way, but I have to say there are so many things I do that I put on hold for that.”
