ZZ-Tops-turned-down-$1-million-to-shave Printable version

Almost thirty years ago, the Gillette company offered ZZ Top's Billy Gibbons and Dusty Hill $1 million to shave off their beards for an advertising campaign. They said no.

Gibbons granted a rare interview to BraveWords.com, saying that, even now, they wouldn't do it.

No dice. Even adjusted for inflation, this isn't going to fly. The prospect of seeing oneself in the mirror clean-shaven is too close to a Vincent Price film... a prospect not to be contemplated, no matter the compensation.

The band continues to work on their new album, produced by Rick Rubin, which will be their first in almost a decade. A preview was released recently via iTunes called Texicali.
