Katy Perry was 'trying to keep her marriage alive.'

The singer is currently promoting her fly-on-the-wall documentary Part of Me 3D. It was produced from over 300 hours of film footage shot during her 2011 California Dreams world tour.

Katy's 14-month marriage with Russell Brand broke down towards the end of her performances. Before the pair split Katy was unwilling to go more than two weeks without seeing Russell.

Striking a balance was important to the singer.

'Being in love is a dream, but the reality is not like the movies,' she revealed in the movie. 'There''s a lot more compromise and sacrifice. I''m trying to keep my marriage alive.'

Later in December when Russell filed for a divorce a make-up free and upset Katy divulged to the camera her thoughts on the life-altering event.

'The truth is I''m a romantic and I believed in the fairy tale. I did everything I could but it still failed,' she shared. 'The dream of being in love is a lot different than the reality of making it work. I''ve got a second chance at a brilliant life.'
