Jason Derülo is headed to Australia to film a TV singing competition.

The 22-year-old R&B star is judging and overseeing the reality show, Making Future History, which will give aspiring singers the chance to showcase their talent, according to Australian newspaper The Daily Telegraph. The winner will receive a recording contract with his new record label Future History.

Filming begins later this year for three to nine months.

Australian management company Showcase of Stars head Clarissa Mansbridge confirmed the Whatcha Say singer's new project.

'It is still in pre-production and we will be releasing something later this month, but Jason has definitely signed on," she said.

'We work very closely with him and the show has been a long time in the pipeline. He says Australia is his favourite place and that he wants to do it exclusively here."

The singer has been recovering from a fractured neck recently. Jason sustained the injuries when he was rehearsing dance moves in January and has said he is 'lucky' to be alive.

Jason, who is dating singer Jordin Sparks, has had to take time out following the injury and claims his injury hampered his love life.

''''Well, the neck is a very romantic part so I haven''t been able to use it at all but besides that it''s fine,' he told NME magazine.

Despite the accident he has been continuing to work on his music having released a remix promo of his It Girl single featuring his girlfriend on vocals.
