Davy Jones has died at age 66.
The lead singer for Sixties group The Monkees passed away this morning, TMZ reports.
A representative for Davy told the site that the performer died from a heart attack and an official from the medical examiner’s office for Martin County, Florida confirmed the news.
They said they received a call from Martin Memorial Hospital that the singer did not survive the attack.
Davy leaves behind his wife Jessica and four daughters that he had from previous relationships.
The singer had reportedly been complaining about chest pains yesterday evening at his home in Indiantown, Florida.
Davy and his band mates Micky Dolenz, Michael Nesmith and Peter Tork were hit makers behind classic songs like Daydream Believer and Last Train to Clarksville.
They had got together specifically for a television show of the same name but then exploded in the musical charts and became major teen heartthrobs. Yahoo Music named Davy the number one teen idol of all time back in 2008.
The British performer also had a successful acting career with roles in the musical Oliver! and numerous television shows.
He last performed in Oklahoma on February 19 and was on stage at BB King in New York City the night before that and appeared to be in good health.
