CLIC Sargent, the UK’s leading children’s cancer charity, is launching a nationwide competition to find a young, talented musician or band to play at the UK’s biggest and most exciting music festival this year. Not only will the lucky winner perform at Glastonbury, they will also get to share a stage with the critically acclaimed electric violinist Linzi Stoppard - one half of electric violin duo FUSE and daughter-in-law of the celebrated Sir Tom and Dr. Miriam Stoppard.
The aim of the Share a Stage competition is to raise awareness for Practice-a-thon, a CLIC Sargent initiative designed to encourage young people to practice their music and raise money for children with cancer. All schools and groups taking part get to keep 25% of any money raised; the other 75% goes to CLIC Sargent.
Young people aged between 13-24 are being invited to film themselves performing either alone, or with their band, and upload the video onto YouTube. Entries will be judged by top music industry professionals including the team that ran the festival's Emerging Talent competition in previous years.
This is a great opportunity to perform at one of the most popular music events in the world. Also, now the festival’s own new talent competition has closed for entries, it’s the last chance many up and coming artists have to perform at Glastonbury in 2008.
“This is a fantastic opportunity to play at this world renowned festival and raise awareness about the work CLIC Sargent does to support children with cancer,” says Linzi Stoppard. “I’m thrilled to be a part of this exciting competition and look forward to sharing a stage at Glastonbury next to some fresh, young talent.”
How to get involved:
To enter the Share a Stage competition, all you need to do is film up to a five minute performance, either solo, duet or with a band, and upload it onto your own YouTube account. If you don’t have one – don’t worry it’s free to register at www.youtube.com. Once you have successfully uploaded your video, you will be given a link (or URL), just copy and paste this into the online registration form on our website www.clicsargent.org.uk/music. All musical genres are welcome and remember that the judges are looking for a rollicking performance as well as good music. The deadline for entries is 5 May 2008.
