BEACH BOYS lead singer Mike Love has sparked rumours of a possible reunion following an exclusive interview with Record Collector magazine.

Rumours of a new Brian Wilson/Mike Love album were rife after the two appeared together at the Capitol Records Tower in Hollywood to celebrate the 40th anniversary of Pet Sounds last year. There Wilson implied there was a chance that all the surviving members (not having performed together since September 1996) would reunite again.

Mike Love, who co-wrote some of the band's most famous hits and sang lead vocal on classics including 'Surfin' USA', 'Little Deuce Coupe', 'I Get Around' and 'California Girls', hasn't performed with Brian Wilson since 1996, but his interview in the October issue of Record Collector has fans slavering over a possible reconciliation.

Love tells Record Collector: "A reunion would have to begin with Brian and I writing together. As far as I'm concerned, I think the first step would be to create some new music, and the chemistry of Brian's innate abilities and mine combined in such a way that we could really be of mutual benefit to each other, creatively."

Love is also confident that any bad blood over the legal wrangles between him and guitarist Al Jardine (he prevented Jardine form using the words 'Beach Boys & Friends' in his act) can also be put to one side. "Alan and I are both the guys who stuck with meditation. So, we have that in common and, philosophically, I think we're a lot closer then people would think."

He added: "There've been some residual legal issues going on, but this too shall pass. Ian Fleming taught us never say 'never'."
