Gwen Stefani's current tour has been left without the major sponsor, after they objected to Akon being chosen as the support act.
Verizon's decision to withdraw from the series of dates across North America has "surprised and shocked" the pop star, according to reports.
The telecommunications company have confirmed they took the decision after controversial footage of Akon was posted on the internet.
Last week, a clip of him engaging in a provocative dancing sequence on-stage with a girl, rumoured to be a teenager, emerged. The footage was not shot at a Stefani gig.
Eric Rabe of Verizon, said: "We had already agreed to sponsor the Stefani tour when Akon was brought in and we have kept that situation under review.
"We have now decided to withdraw and the video was part of that decision", he told the BBC.
