Susan Boyle has not taken over the world just yet. She still has Japan to go.

That shall all change on New Year’s Eve when Susan Boyle whips over to Japan to appear on the nation’s biggest music show Kohaku Uta Gassen.

The annual show is broadcast every New Year’s Eve in Japan.

The program features the most popular acts of the year broken into two teams – the Red and the White team.

The Red team features all female singers or groups with female singers, The White team is the male team.

Artists appear on the show by invitation only. It is considered a great honor in Japan to be invited onto the show,

The show was first broadcast in Japan in 1951 on radio.

So can Susan Boyle bring the red team to victory? Red has not won a season in 5 years. The last Red win was in 2004. Red also won in 2002 and 2000.

Notable non-Asian acts who have appeared on the show over the years include Sarah Brightman (1991, 42nd), Paul Simon and Cyndi Lauper (1990, 41st). Sarah Brightman’s won for her year. Paul Simon beat Cyndi Lauper’s team in their year.
