The UK rock band Placebo today joined a host of other international and local artists performing at an historic MTV EXIT concert on 7 December to raise awareness and increase prevention of human trafficking, a crime impacting millions of people worldwide.

Also performing below Placebo on the bill will be Duncan Sheik, Australian Kate Miller-Heidke, US group The Click Five and some of Cambodia’s biggest recording artists.

MTV EXIT (End Exploitation and Trafficking) is a project of the MTV Europe Foundation -- a London-based registered charity – to raise awareness and increase prevention of human trafficking and exploitation. MTV EXIT in Asia is produced in partnership with the United States Agency for International Development (USAID).

“We are incredibly proud to perform at this important concert,” the members of Placebo said. “We hope that through our music and involvement in this event and the MTV EXIT campaign that millions of people learn about this tragic form of slavery.”

“Music can be an incredible force for change and through this special concert and the other events that will be held across Cambodia and Asia, MTV EXIT will empower young people and their peers to avoid trafficking” said Simon Goff, MTV EXIT’s Director.

Angkor Wat is the best-preserved temple at the UNESCO World Heritage-listed complex near Siem Reap, Cambodia. The 12th-Century temple served as the backdrop for scenes in Tomb Raider, the action movie starring Angelina Jolie, and is one of the most unique and iconic cultural sites of the world. Whilst other cultural, classical and operatic performances have taken place at the temple, this will be the first ever rock concert.

The concert will provide content for a series of television programmes produced by MTV EXIT to be broadcast in Cambodia and on MTV channels internationally. These specials will combine concert footage with important information about human trafficking. All MTV EXIT television programming is produced rights-free and free of charge for all broadcasters and organisations.
