The ‘Grease’ star begrudges leaving a lot of cash to restaurant staff because she believes they expect money regardless of how good their service has been.

However, when it comes to workers in other jobs she is happy to dip deep into her purse.

She said: “I’m always conscious about leaving something, especially for the maid at a hotel. They appreciate it more. Whereas, in restaurants I’m not an extravagant tipper. I think they expect it, no matter how good they are, and that’s not right.”

Although Olivia always considers how much she tips, she is not concerned with how much money she has and thinks wealth, or a lack of it, can have a very negative influence on people.

She told The Sunday Telegraph newspaper: “As you get older you realise you actually need a lot less materially in your life. My most treasured possessions are not things; my friends, family and animals are what counts.

“I don’t attach too much importance on money. I don’t judge people by how much they do or do not have. I think there can be a lot of jealousy attached to money.”
