Michael Hutchence would have turned 50-years old today (Friday, January 22).

To mark the occasion, Port Phillip Councilor and photographer Serge Thomann, a friend of the singer from 1985 until his death in 1997, will unveil his private collection of Hutchence images as a tribute to the late INXS star.

“I owe a lot to Michael,” Mr. Thomann said. “He persuaded me to take up photography professionally, after he saw my photos from his 1985 concert at Melbourne’s then Sports and Entertainment Centre (now Collingwood FC’s home). It was the best career advice I ever had.”

The exhibition will be projected onto the outside wall of the Palais Theatre in St Kilda tomorrow night. “It means a lot to me to be able to remember him by sharing my collection, for free, with his many fans,” Thomann said. “It is my special 50th Birthday present to Michael and his numerous fans!”

The building is of particular significance to the memory of Michael. On the very day he was buried in Sydney INXS was meant to have played at the Palais on that same evening.

The images can be also viewed from michaelhutchence.com.au from Saturday, January 23.
