U2 are set to stream a live concert through YouTube this weekend, it was confirmed today.

The band's concert at the Pasadena Rose Bowl in California this Sunday will be streamed live on the video-sharing website YouTube.

Manager Paul McGuinness said the concert was already being filmed so it was "the perfect opportunity to extend the party beyond the stadium" and added that the band had "wanted to do something like this for a long time".

He said: "Fans often travel long distances to come to see U2 - this time U2 can go to them, globally."

Fans in 16 countries around the world - Australia, Brazil, Britain, Canada, France, India, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Japan, Mexico, the Netherlands, New Zealand, South Korea, Spain and the United States - will be able to watch the live show.

The show starts at 4.30am BST and YouTube’s Chris Maxcy, director of partner development, said: "We suspect it will be very popular in terms of live streams."
