Robbie Williams claims touring "nearly killed" him.

The 'Angels' singer is considering quitting live performances and has disappointed fans by revealing he has no plans to release a new album this year.

He said: "There might not be a proper album out this year and there definitely won't be a tour any time soon. F**k that, the last one nearly killed me.

"There will be some kind of something this year. I might just put B-sides to the next album out first online. Then put an album out in 2009. Which means you won't be seeing me on stage for a while. Sorry folks."

Robbie - whose last album 'Rudebox' was panned by critics - says part of him wants to carry on being a pop star while the other part is content to turn his back on public life.

He added on his website blog: "I do have to say, the more time I'm spending away from public life, the more I like it. Unfortunately I have a massive competitive urge that wants me to put out three albums a year.

"Which one will win? I'm sure as soon as I get bored I'll be back. But right now there's a soy vanilla latte and mince pie waiting for me in the kitchen."

Last month, it was rumoured Robbie was planning a huge tour in an attempt to wrestle the spotlight back from his former bandmates Take That, who have enjoyed phenomenal success since reforming.
