Smashing Pumpkins will release an EP of new acoustic material in the New Year, Billy Corgan has revealed.

The rock titans embarked on a world tour in 2007, after Corgan reformed the band with original drummer Jimmy Chamberlain.

Following this year's comeback album "Zeitgeist", a number of new songs will be made available on download-only via iTunes.

Titled "American Gothic", they include "The Rose March", which was amongst the songs played on The Pumpkins' tour, and "Sunkissed", "Pox" and "Again, Again, Again (The Crux)".

Speaking about the EP, Corgan said: "I had written a bunch of material during the residencies in Asheville and San Francisco (earlier this year), and fans kept asking us if we were gonna put any of that stuff out.

"iTunes came to us wanting to do something together, so it just felt right."

"American Gothic" will be released on January 2, exclusively through iTunes.
