Pete Doherty is to be released early from prison after serving just 29 days of his 14-week sentence, it was reported today reports XFM.co.uk.

The singer was jailed last month for breaking the conditions of his probation by refusing to take drug tests following a suspended sentence for heroin posession.

Doherty's incarceration has led to the cancelling and postponing of several shows, but his early release means that he'll more than likely be able to appear at this year's Glastonbury festival as planned. Don't hold your breath though...

News of the early release has sparked off questions about the special treatment of celebrity law-breakers and the early release of jailbirds in general.
