Lou Reed and Laurie Anderson wed

Classic rock legend Lou Reed and his avant-garde musician girlfriend Laurie Anderson have married in Colorado.

The couple, who have lived together for the past 12 years are reported to have tied the knot on April 13.

Reed is now 66, Anderson is 60.

Lou came to prominence as the frontman for New York's The Velvet Underground. The band was together from 1965-1973.

In 1971, he started his solo career and made his name with the hit 'Walk On The Wide Side'.

Laurie Anderson is known for her experimental performances. Although she has been performing since the 60s, it was the 1981 track 'O Superman' that placed her on the top 40 charts.

Last year, she was awarded the Gish Prize for 'outstanding contribution to the beauty of the world and to mankind's enjoyment and understanding of life".
