Jet are in a better frame of mind for the imminent third album.

The band spent part of the year been holed up at Atlantic Sound in New York writing for the yet-to-be titled album and then headed down to Austin, Texas to record.

Hometown fans in Melbourne, Australia will be the first in the world to hear tracks from the new album live. Jet will play a special show at the East Brunswick Club on December 17.

So what is in store for the third album? “I think the first album was naïve and fun, the second album was us trying too hard and this on is just us really relaxed and being comfortable in our own skin and getting along and really wanting to create something interesting. There is a vibe in the group that hasn’t existed for a long time,” Nic Cester said at the band’s website.

“The last album, although we all think it was our best body of work so far, left us pretty empty at the end of it,” he said.

The third Jet album is expected to drop the album early 2009.
