Britney Spears is set to play the Virgin Mary.

French producer Phillippe Rebboah has approached the 'Toxic' singer to portray the mother of Christ in a satirical film of the Nativity story called 'Sweet Baby Jesus'.

Rebboah told Us Weekly magazine: "I had to convince my partners, because they were like, 'Oh, no. Britney?' But I thought it was brilliant." The modern re-imagining of the Christian story sees Mary as a pregnant 19-year-old unsure of her baby's paternity who goes into labour on Christmas Eve in Bethlehem, Maryland, amid rumours the birth is the second coming of Jesus Christ.

Meanwhile, Britney will today (12.12.07) undergo questioning by ex-husband Kevin Federline's lawyers in the latest chapter of the bitter custody battle for sons Sean Preston, two, and 15-month-old Jayden James.

The 'Gimme More' singer has been served with a deposition to answer questions under oath at the office of Kevin's attorney.

Her testimony is not expected to take more than a day.

Los Angeles family lawyer Lynn Soodik said: "A deposition can be emotionally draining, because Kevin's lawyer can ask very personal questions about her relationship with her kids - and she'll be under oath."

Britney will be accompanied by her chief lawyer Sorrell Trope and the rest of her legal team.

A court ruled on October 26 that her testimony may not be video taped. It is believed Britney will be questioned about her alleged drug and alcohol use, her failure to follow court orders and her capabilities as a mother. Kevin currently has temporary full custody of Sean and Jayden and receives £15,000-a-month in child support from Britney, while she has three supervised visits a week.

To keep her visitation rights she must undergo regular court-ordered drug testing.

They have agreed to share custody over the Christmas holidays. The next court hearing in the case is scheduled for January.
