It appears Aerosmith may be on the verge of a split with lead singer Steven Tyler. Tyler says he is getting out of the band.

Tyler spoke with Classic Rock mag this week and said, 'I don't know what I'm doing yet, but it's definitely going to be something Steven Tyler: working on the brand of myself - Brand Tyler.''

He says the made will meet soon to talk about 'a long hiatus or carrying on with a new singer'.

Aerosmith without Steven Tyler is unthinkable after all these years. It would be like the Rolling Stones without Mick Jagger. It would not go well with fans.

Other bands have had success replacing a singer, but no one has ever done it this far into a career. Brian Johnson replaced Bon Scott in AC/DC, William DuVall replaced Layne Staley in Alice in Chains but stepping into Steven Tyler's shoes in Aerosmith could prove disastrous.

Aerosmith had to cancel their last tour when Tyler fell of stage and injured himself. They have only done two gigs since.

The last Aerosmith gig was in Abu Dhabi last week. It appears to have been Tyler's last gig with the band. Guitarist Joe Perry told the Las Vegas Sun yesterday, ' Steven quit, as far as I can tell'.

Aerosmith are yet to release an official statement of the situation.
